In Memoriam: Emin Ulug

Emin Ulug, retired Molecular Biosciences Associate Professor of Instruction passed away on September 12 after a long illness.

Dr. Emin Ulug, retired Molecular Biosciences Associate Professor of Instruction and valued member of the UT Biological Sciences community, passed away on September 12 after a long illness. Dr. Ulug taught the Virology and Immunology lab courses for over two decades. These courses were taken by microbiology, premedical and other pre-professional students. He retired from UT Austin three years ago.Dr. Ulug graduated as a Plan II Biology student and then obtained a PhD in Microbiology, both from The University of Texas at Austin. His dissertation research showed that Sindbis virus alters the cellular Na+/K+ pump, resulting in the selective translation of viral over host cell mRNA.Dr. Ulug is survived by his wife Els, three daughters, Nadine, Ciska, and Nikki, and three grandchildren.
